Understanding the gravity of the problem caused by water shortages and water pollution, many scientists have started working on various models to solve the problem. This page lists the gist of such research ideas.

Agriculture water conservation methods (Mulching)

The agriculture sector consumes most of India's water resources, and any water shortage will impact rural areas (villages). Agricultural Irrigation is intrinsically linked with water conservation. The vast volume of water used in agriculture, as water is an essential raw material for food production, signifies that water conservation can't be talked about if we think of ignoring the agriculture sector. Water wastage is observed at all the steps of this sector and is up for improvement. Even water storage and water transportation involve water wastage to a large extent. The water stored in reservoirs is observed to evaporate at a much faster pace than the flowing water. During water transportation to places where water supply is limited, it is observed that water leakages in canal systems contribute to approximately 10 percent wastage of water. But, the shift of the irrigation system from flood irrigation to more efficient methods like drip and sprinkler irrigation has supported water conservation a lot.

Stabilization Ponds

WSPs (waste stabilisation ponds) are earthen structures that contain man-made depressions. They're most commonly employed to treat sewage and industrial effluents, but they can also be used to treat municipal run-off or stormwater. A single pond or a series of ponds may make up the system, with each pond serving a particular purpose in the pollution treatment process.

CSRs and NGOs

Equal access to clean drinking water and efficient water management will hence define India’s ability to achieve high economic growth and ensure environmental sustainability. However, we continue to see rising demand for the world’s water resources,” -says Head CSR and Sustainability, STL. built over 700 artificial lakes, making his name appear in the Limca Book of World records.

The situation of water scarcity continues to be frightening, and it is unjust to leave the solution to policymakers alone. Some states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh have already taken control of the problem and are effectively managing their water resources in advance of the impending water catastrophe.

Govt. schemes and initiatives

In recent years, the Government of India has taken considerable initiatives and measures to address the serious concerns of water pollution and inappropriate garbage disposal. Some of these include developing new standards for the prevention and control of industrial pollution, formulating action plans for sewage management and water quality restoration, implementing the National River Conservation Plan, establishing sewage treatment plants, constructing low-cost sanitation facilities, spreading education, encouraging community participation, and so on.
